My Wellness Philosophy

I'm not a well-known author, podcaster, coach, etc.  Therefore, I think its important that you, my reader, understand my philosophy about health, nutrition, wellness as you read my blog.

The thing is, my philosophy looked different than it did a couple years ago...well, even a year ago...heck, even a couple months ago!

I want to try to keep this brief, so stay with me...

When I first started to care what was on the end of my fork, I was a teenager in college and along the belief that the less fat in the diet, the better and long, steady state cardio (to be fair, at the time I didn't realize that is what it was - I just thought the more calories burned, the better the workout). As several health issues started creepy up on me, I moved into a everything in moderation approach with the same workout method.  This was a step in the right direction, but it wasn't a solid solution for me.  Not to mention, I had severe body image issues that have stayed with me to this day.

In the past year, I have adopted a real, whole foods nutrition lifestyle that has led me to finally understand how good the body is supposed to feel.  As far as exercise, I now incorporate resistance strength training, natural movement, and stretching to my interval cardio training.  It looks much different than before and truth be told, it is still a journey!  I am always listening to my body and attempting to respond with the respect it deserves.

And this is essentially my philosophy.
I believe in listening to your body, always.

Food is nourishment.  It is not something to "perfect."  It is not about counting or measuring.   It is not supposed to cause more stress to your day. It is about fuel and enjoyment.  You are not supposed to feel bloated, lack energy, endure headaches, or have ingestion.  This is not normal for the human body.  Don't accept it.  Make the effort to pick foods that are going to leave you feeling healthy and satisfied.

The perfect food and exercise routine is unique to each individual.  What works for me, may not work for you, and what works for you may be different than your spouse.  It is a journey, a process, and yours to own.  Start today!

I specifically love to work with women because I am living the pressures of media, the issues of insecurity, and the flat out confusion and mixed messages around health and fitness.  In the past few months, I have educated myself about the topics and took a step back from the "fitspiration" and "fitspo" messages to finally WAKE UP and realize what we are doing to ourselves.  You DESERVE more.
